In this tutorial I will explain to create metal texture. You can use it for layout, or interface as background, effect for any object, etc.
Step 1
Start a new document any size. For this tutorial, I have made about 300 x 300 pixel at 72dpi.
Fill it with a light grey colour using Paint Bucket tool. I used the hex value c3c3c3.

Step 2
Add some noise to the image by going to the Filter > Noise > Add Noise. Check the Gaussian and Monochromatic box. I used about 10%, but you can deviate if you wish.
Click OK when you are done.

Step 3
Go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur. Set the Angle to 0 and Distance to 20. Click OK when you are done.

That’s it. The metal texture have done. For more look pretty, you can add any effect like lighting or etc.
In this tutorial I used Lighting Effects.
Step 4
Go to Filter > Render > Lighting Effect. From the Light Type selection box, select Spotlight.
Change the light colour to white (shown circled bellow in red). Drag the light source (shown circled here in green) and place it in the upper right corner. You can also drag any of the other resize handles until it closely resembles something close to this.
Then change the Intensity to 56, the Gloss to 100 and the Ambience to 21.
Leave all the other values to 0.

Click OK when you are done. And the final looks something like this.

I hope you enjoy this tutorial. You can donwload psd file in here.
